Afrobeat, a genre born from the jazz rhythms of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, stands as a testament to Africa’s rich cultural heritage. Inspired by this iconic sound, I set out to create an authentic piece of artwork that embodies the essence of African folklore and originality.
For this project, I selected a regal West African cloth often used in wedding and engagement ceremonies. Its intricate geometric patterns, inspired by natural shapes in African landscapes, add elegance and sophistication. The triangular, rectangular, and hexagonal shapes in the fabric echo the cubist movement pioneered by artists like Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso, symbolizing the fusion of African and European art and the interconnectedness of cultures.
Infused with the vibrant energy and spirit of Afrobeat, the result is a stunning piece of artwork that celebrates the beauty and diversity of African culture. Whether viewed from afar or up close, this artwork is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who behold it.
